Colt McCoy and the Texas Longhorns got screwed out of a shot to play in the Big 12 Championship due to the horrendous system of the BCS. This is the first time that a team has beaten both teams playing in the conference championship. You have to feel sorry for the kids at Texas as they had a tremendous season and they will now have to sit home and hope that Missouri pulls off an amazing upset over Oklahoma on Saturday. Things may not be so bad for McCoy even if his team doesn’t make it to the big game in my eyes he will still be crowned with the 2008 Heisman Trophy.
THE CASE FOR THE TEXAS QB
McCoy isn’t getting it all on sympathy either for his team not getting selected as he has completed a ridiculous 77.6 percent of his passes this year to make him the most efficient passer in this race as Harrell 71.5 % , Bradford 68.2%, Tebow 65% all trail.
McCoy is also the only QB who led his team in both passing and rushing as he had 3445 yards passing with 32 TD’s to just 7 INT’s.
McCoy also led the Longhorns with 576 rushing yards and found the end zone 10 times in doing so. His versatility is that of Tebow and that is the main reason he deserves this award over Oklahoma’s Sam Bradford 4080 yards 46 TD’s 6 Int’s, and Texas Tech’s Graham Harrell 4747 yards 41TD’s 7 Int’s.
The media will say that Tim Tebow deserves to be in this race because of his ability to run and throw and I say Ok fine because McCoy has him beat in almost every area. McCoy has Tebow in every category except rushing TD’s where Tebow had 12 to Colt’s 10.
McCoy even had more yards rushing than Tebow as he only managed 507 to McCoy’s 576. If you Gator fans were wondering Tebow had more carries 137 to 128.
Forget Passing as McCoy makes Tebow look like a High School kid as Tebow had 2294 yards to McCoy’s 3445. Tebow threw 25 TD’s to Colt’s 32, and Tebow did have only 2 INT’s to McCoy’s 7 but he also attempted 129 less passes. You think Tebow would have 2 INT’s if he was in the pass happy Big 12 and he had attempted 129 more passes. I don’t.
Now people will read this and say you know what Matty you hate the Gators and I’d say I don’t hate anyone but your right I am not a Gator fan however I dislike Texas more than any team in College Football. As I have been a Nebraska fan for many years. So trust me it isn’t bias at all as it is a case of the numbers and the simple fact that Colt McCoy was the best player in College Football during the 2008 season and he deserves this year’s hardware.
