Celtics Manhandle Bobcats In Home Opener To Improve to 2-0
“Celtics In Total Control Of Home Opening Win vs Bobcats”
Rondo Guides C’s To Their 2nd Win Of ‘09- Rajon Rondo had as many points as Charlotte’s leading scorer Gerald Wallace with 10. More impressively Rondo had more assists 11 than the entire Bobcat team who ended their ugly night with 10. The Celtics had total control of this game as they ended up holding the Bobcats to their lowest point total in franchise history with just 59 points.
“Celtics Win Ugly 92-59 To Improve To 2-0 On Season”
In what appeared to be a sloppy game the Celtics got the job done an improved to 2-0 on the season. Although it was their home opener you could seethat the Celtics lacked energy in tonight’s game against Charlotte. This was definitely something that should have been expected after the Celtics emotional season opening win last night in Cleveland. The Charlotte Bobcats on the other hand had no excuses as they played a terrible game in losing their first game of the season. The Bobcats no longer have center Emeka Okafor and it showed tonight as their defense was awful from start to finish. The Celtics never trailed in this one as they ended up winning 88-65. The Bobcats managed just 15 points in the 1st quarter with just 31 for the first half. The Celtics basically did what they wanted as they opened up a 26 point lead half way through the 3rd quarter lead in large part by a 20-0 run. The Bobcats managed just 10 points in the entire 3rd quarter and at the end of the 3rd quarter Rajon Rondo had twice as many assists 11 as the entire Bobcat team 5. The Celtics took a 67-41 lead heading into the final frame.
This game was never in doubt as the C’s were lead by Ray Allen’s game high 18 points on a rough 6-17 shooting. Ray was 4-10 from 3 and he added 2 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals. Four of the five Celtic starters were in double figures as the first unit was able to rest for the entire 4th quarter. Rajon Rondo once again had a solid night engineering the offense with 10 points and 11 assists. Garnett chipped in 10 points and 7 rebounds in his 24 minutes of play. Paul Pierce had 15 points on 4-9 shooting in his 24 minutes of play. Pierce was 3 of 5 from behind the arc adding 4 assists. Kendrick Perkins had 9 points coupled with 7 rebounds. Keep in mind the fact that the first unit only played 3 quarters tonight. Rasheed Wallace was 3 of 8 from the field attempting all 3 pointers ending the night with9 points in his 16 minutes of play. The only real surprise tonight was the play of Shelden Williams off the bench as he scored 12 points on 2 of 3 shooting to go along with a team high 9 rebounds. Williams did a solid job of going to the basket as he was 8 of 11 from the free throw line.
This was an ugly game played by both teams but as you can see the Bobcats have serious problems whereas the Celtics can play bad and still win big. The Bobcats scored a franchise low 59 points tonight mainly due to the fact that they had 18 turnovers and shot just 31 percent from the field. The Celtics were also playing their second game in as many nights so it was good to see them be able to rest their starters. The Celtics improve to 2-0 on the season with this win and they will get tomorrow off before returning to the court Friday night to host the Bulls.
